Pasig City Nurture Geist Preschool - A Waldorf Inspired School For Kids

Are you located somewhere in Pasig and currently looking looking for a child's preschool for your young ones?

Nurture Geist School in Brixton Street, Barangay Kapitolyo Pasig City publishes the school as a Waldorf-inspired pre-school. We've Googled the meaning of Waldorf schools and saw this:

Waldorf schools are non-sectarian and non-denominational. They educate all children, regardless of their cultural or religious backgrounds. The pedagogical method is comprehensive, and, as part of its task, seeks to bring about recognition and understanding of all the world cultures and religions. www.whywaldorfworks.org

Nurture Geist says these about their school:

"Nurture Geist School fosters creative and critical thinking. Our goal is to enable children to think on their own and to define their own purpose and path to contribute to society in the future.
Everything in the school was carefully chosen to enable the individual development of our students. Upon entering our door, you will immediately see a rope ladder on the wall, you will see a frame of rope obstacle and a wide space for running, crawling, rolling on the floor and all the physical activities children enjoy.
The classrooms have blank walls, tables and chairs, a shelf to keep the toys and a storytelling table. The toys in the rooms are made from natural materials: wood, cloth, shells. No plastic. Nothing that beeps, rings and shakes without effort from the children. They play with the toys every day and every day they have new ideas on how to play with them.
Snack time is a special time. Everyone enjoys the same food. They practice how to be independent at mealtimes. We share fresh fruits or boiled kamote, saba and corn, or bread, pastries or soup and veggies. Nothing too starchy or too sweet.
We introduce concepts through songs and movements, through stories, through crafts, baking, arts, cooking and outdoor activities, and through first-hand experiences. Every week we either go to the park, the zoo, garden, museum, watch a play, prepare a meal for other children, visit a bakeshop or the fire station, learn to swim, plant a tree and anything that children need to see to have a better understanding of the things around them.
The best part of our day is when we get a big hug from each student at the end of class. It is fulfilling for us to teach without seemingly teaching, the children enjoy while they explore and try, and we get to do it again the following day!"
With the photos of the active children, they seem to be having fun. Why not have some time visit the school and check if they will work perfect for your preschooler?

Parents Should Show Good Example In Proper Oral Hygiene

Time and time again, we are being reminded of how important it is to take care of the teeth. As parents, we have years of experience of building our personal confidence through education, good character and family upbringing. We also know that having a set of good, not necessarily perfect teeth, is very essential when dealing with other people, but also for our personal health and well-being.
photo from www.smile4life.org.uk

So how do you teach your kids proper oral hygiene to be able to maintain good dental health? Show good example. Show them how you prioritize good oral hygiene by regularly performing these oral hygiene habits:

Brush your teeth daily
Brush your teeth at least twice a day—ideally in the morning after breakfast and in the evening before going to bed. Spend 2-3 minutes for brushing to make sure that your toothbrush reaches every corner of your mouth, including the teeth, gums and tongue.

Floss regularly
Use a floss to clean the tight spaces between your teeth and under the gumline, which are not reachable by toothbrush. If you find it hard to handle floss properly, use interdental cleaners, like special wooden or plastic pick, as an alternative.

Use mouthwash
Cosmetic and therapeutic mouthwash can help freshen your breath, especially after eating food or drinking liquids that have strong smell. Take note, however, that the effect of mouthwash is temporary and rinsing doesn’t treat the root cause of bad breath.

Take probiotics
Bad breath is often caused by poor digestion, which can be solved by cleaning out your gut to flush the toxins and bad bacteria away. Fermented food, like yogurt and kimchi, can help clean your digestive tract and smooth your digestion.

Eat food that are rich in vitamins and minerals
Get enough fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet, which are good source of vitamins and minerals that promote optimal oral health. Limit consumption of candies and other sweets, which contain too much sugar. The bacteria in your mouth convert the sugar to acid, which attacks your teeth’s enamel, leading to cavities and tooth decay.

Prevent teeth discoloration
Some people have natural yellowish teeth, but this is not an excuse to ignore unnatural teeth discoloration that is caused by poor dental hygiene and regular consumption of teeth-staining beverages, like tea, coffee and wine. You can use over-the-counter products, like bleach and whitening strips, to remove the stain and whiten your teeth. The safest way, however, is to let your dentist do the job.

Visit your dentist regularly
Schedule dental check-ups every six months but more often than that if you have dental problems. During a routine check-up, the dentist usually checks your teeth for cavities, signs of decay and gum problems. Your dentist or dental hygienist may also remove plaque build-up through oral prophylaxis (teeth cleaning).

The MediCard free-standing clinics (FSC) offer dental services. To see the list of MediCard FSC, visit www.medicardphils.com and schedule an appointment.

Help Your Child Adapt To K-12

Do you know what's involved in the current K-12 program?

The education program includes mandatory preschool education for five-year old children before entering the 6-year elementary school as well as going through additional 2 years in the  high school or secondary education. Aside from this new structure, the medium of instruction from kindergarten to Grade 3 will now be mother tongue-based. This means that the K to 12 student will be taught the core learning areas using his first language.

The National Achievement Test (popularly known as NAT) will still be administered as an end-of-grade 6 assessment but this time  will serve both as an exit examination from elementary  and entrance examination for Grade 7. Grade 10 students will also go through an assessment to qualify for senior high school and their chosen track.  The end of Grade 12 examination will not only be the end of K to 12 exam but also serve as entrance exam for university.
