Monsanto Employees Give Back to their Alabang Community

Monsanto Philippines’ employees recently visited Elsie Gaches Village in Alabang, Muntinlupa City to bring Christmas gifts to its residents and engage them in joyful activities. The facility is the country’s largest shelter for orphaned children and adults with development disorders or disabilities. Over 150 residents of Elsie Gaches Village joined the program organized by the Monsanto employees.

Corporate Engagement Lead Charina Garrido Ocampo said: “Concern for others and sharing are part of Monsanto’s company culture.Together with our local partners, we develop programs that allow us to give back to various communities where we are present -- like building schools and housing infrastructure, providing financial literacy to women farmers, and educating the youth about agriculture and biotechnology.”

Ocampo explained that for a time the company focused these social programs in key provincial areas but this Christmas, Monsanto employees decided to turn their attention to the immediate community where the company primarily leads its business – in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

“What is particularly unique about the activity was that it was employee-led. There are about 50 personnel in the local office and all of them brought gifts they carefully chose and purchased for the residents they visited. The company’s leadership is really just happily supporting what is truly an employee-led effort,” Ocampo shared.

Employees held an entertaining program to bring laughter to the residents and shared a meal with them. For the kids, a short animated film was shown of the children’s book Lina’s Town Rises Again -- a story about a female corn farmer from Sultan Kudarat who helped her community successfully recover from a devastating typhoon through the use of modern and sustainable farming methods. The company also donated several sacks of rice to Elsie Gaches to help address the daily rice needs of the residents.

Amazing sights and lights: Singapore’s most picturesque destinations this holiday season

The glistening lights, the Christmas trees and all the other festive holiday decorations truly make Christmas one of the most enchanting and picturesque times of the year. But the real beauty of the season is in the moments it brings about—gift-giving, get-togethers, and getaways.

Singapore offers exciting possibilities with its Christmas attractions straight from your Christmas fantasies that are sure to provide you and your loved ones with beautiful, picture-perfect experiences that you would definitely want to capture.

Holiday marvels in the heart of the city
If you’re looking for a winter fairytale come to life, Gardens by the Bay has its enchanting Christmas Wonderland. One of Singapore’s main annual events, this attraction is sure to excite families and friends looking for some holiday cheer as they feast on delicious treats at the European-inspired festive market, play carnival games at the fun fairground and skate under the beautiful night sky at the open skating rink. But the star of the event has to be the stunning seven-storey luminary light, the Spalliera. During the event’s nightly Blizzard Time, visitors can capture a photo as marvelous as their Christmas Wonderland experience set against magical snowfall and the Spalliera’s lights.

A nearby attraction one can also check out is Poinsettia Wishes, a massive floral installation of poinsettias, amaryllis and Christmas trees at the Gardens by the Bay Flower Dome. Visitors can experience a truly Nordic winter cozying up under a Lavvu, a kind of tent used in Northern Scandinavia, while enjoying the northern lights projected on the dome’s screens. Those with an eye for landscapes are sure to delight in taking shots of the splendid set-up.

Another amazing sight to behold is Christmas on a Great Street. Every year, Singapore’s famous Orchard Road is lit up with fantastic light installations. This year, the event celebrates with the theme “Endless Wonder,” featuring its very own Christmas Village that is complete with pop-up shops and food bazaars. Be inspired to encapsulate your Singapore holiday and take a dreamy photo at the Walk of Wonder, a 20-meter-long tunnel of blue fairy lights covered in a silver reflective fabric blanketing.

Those looking for an adventure-filled yuletide getaway can head over to the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival. Admission to the carnival grounds is free and open for all, especially thrill-seekers who will surely enjoy more than 40 rides and games with impressive standouts like the Star Flyer, Cyclone Coaster, Booster Maxx, Log Flume, Das Fun Schiff (Pirate Ship). A carnival wouldn’t be complete without yummy food to munch on. Luckily, there is also a food bazaar with Michelin-starred gourmet food, classic carnival treats like popcorn, and many more. There are also a wide variety of performances from DJs, local independent artists, and caroling chorales that should not to be missed.

The Prudential Marina Bay Carnival, however, is just part of an even bigger celebration—the much-anticipated Marina Bay Countdown. Here, attendees are in for an extravagant night full of possibilities, from an awesome laser show and a bustling holiday bazaar, to a grand fireworks spectacle. During the year-end festivities, Singapore’s cityscape turns into the perfect backdrop of fantastic projection mapping displays. As part of the 2D mapping display, the big countdown, along with crowd-sourced New Year wishes, will be projected across the Fullerton Hotel, followed by magnificent fireworks that are sure to get spectators excited for the possibilities of a new year.

Both kids and kids-at-heart can discover what it’s like to be an elf at the North Pole at A Universal Christmas at Universal Studios Sentosa. Santa’s Workshop is a fully-immersive attraction filled with different, fun challenges. Visitors can also catch Santa with his reindeers and elves at Santa’s Snowy Sleigh Ride, a fun parade around Universal Studios Sentosa. Philippines sheds off nearly 1 million lbs with the help of FitFil National Weight Loss Challenge

In May 2017, the Fit Filipino Movement (FitFil) spearheaded by celebrity fitness coaches Jim and Toni Saret (“Biggest Loser Philippines Season 2”) sought to achieve their most challenging goal: to rally the entire Philippines to shift to an active lifestyle and collectively lose one million pounds.

Now, six (6) months later, the FitFil National Weight Loss Challenge has come to a close and the verdict is out: the Philippines has collectively shed nearly one million pounds in just half a year!

The announcement was made during the movement’s culminating event, FWD’s Live to Move fitness party, held on December 3 at the Central Park, SM By the Bay, Mall of Asia. The centerpiece of the event was the "Campaign Achievement Celebration," which highlighted the campaign's collective achievements and recognized the more than a hundred organizations, institutions, LGU partners, and companies which took part in the project. Present during the occasion were representatives from these partner-organizations including the Philippine Medical Association, Philippine National Police, National Youth Commission, among others.

Celebrity fitness coaches Jim and Toni proudly shared how the movement was able to achieve its objective of achieving its target in six months' time.

"It was a combined effort from everyone—individuals, groups, and partner organizations who pledged to lose weight by deciding it was time to adapt a more active lifestyle,” says Coach Jim. "But the mission has just started. We hope to see at least one million Filipinos more fit in three years' time.”

For her part, Coach Toni says, “Through the FitFil weight loss challenge, we hope to spread the message that being fit and well starts with a simple commitment and that includes taking ownership of your health.”

FWD Life Philippines, one of the country’s fastest growing insurance companies, is a proud partner of the FitFil movement.

“We at FWD fully support FitFilipino’s humble advocacy of getting everyone fit and well so Filipinos can really celebrate life. We will continue to encourage everyone to take part in a more active lifestyle and as our brand tagline goes, Get ready to live!” shares FWD Life Philippines Head of Marketing Rochelle Vandenberghe.

As an insurance industry pioneer in the space of health and wellness, FWD Life Philippines has been at the forefront of pushing more Filipinos to lead a healthier lifestyle. The company spearheaded the “Live to Move” movement in 2015, a nationwide wellness project inspired by the virtue that achieving better health is key in getting ready to live life to the fullest.
