SM Supermalls To Celebrate Philippine Independence Day Nationwide

Patriotism will be rekindled among today’s families and the youth when all 58 SM Supermalls nationwide unite to celebrate Philippine Independence Day from May 28 to June 12, 2016.

“Our heroes went into battle full tilt so we can have our independence, which we enjoy until today. June 12, 1898, was the day the Philippine flag was formally raised as a symbol of that hard-fought freedom. This year, SM is reliving that important part of our history by holding activities that put emphasis on the significance of the event. It’s our way of celebrating with our communities,” SM Supermalls Senior Vice President for Marketing, Jon Jon San Agustin said.

The highlight of the festivities is a simultaneous flag raising ceremony in all SM Supermalls nationwide at exactly 8AM on June 12. Joining the SM teams are representatives from LGUs, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, academe, the private sector, among others. It will immediately be followed by a Freedom Parade inside every mall, passing by stores decked with their own Philippine flag displays.

To make the event more relatable to today’s youth, SM will be installing iconic Philippine Independence Day centerpieces that customers can use as background for their “selfies.” A special one-day mallwide sale dubbed #PINOYFUNSALE will also happen on June 10-12, offering up to 70% discount on select items.

SM Supermalls has been engaging customers in Independence Day celebrations for many years, acknowledging its crucial position of being at the center of every community where an SM mall operates. The country’s largest shopping mall operator serves millions of customers daily, giving the company a great opportunity to push this event’s objective forward.

KidZania Go! Brings Role-playing Activities Closer to Kids at Alabang Town Center

Kids got a glimpse of the exciting world of KidZania Manila, as this year’s KidZania Go! pop-up event recently held its first successful run at the Alabang Town Center Activity Center.

Misters and misses eager to explore and discover their future selves went through interactive and engaging role-playing activities for kids to live out their dream careers, learning and nurturing their unique talents, and skills along the way.

Through five distinct role-playing activities, kids were able to learn about different career options. As science geniuses at the Science Lab, misters and misses found a way to construct their very own lava lamps—they even got to take their creations home! At the Art Gallery, kids were artists-in-training and painted on acrylic walls and tables to create art, and took the artworks they have done, as well as acrylic postcards they can turn into their own masterpieces.

Promising bakers decorated delicious sugar cookies with icing and condiments at the Bake Shop. They were also able to share their creatively designed goodies with their family. As trusted stewards of the environment, misters and misses experienced the importance of caring for Mother Nature by planting seedlings and watering plants at the Urban Garden. The motivated kids even took home seedlings that they can plant, care for, and grow at home. To cap off their hard day’s work, the kids met up and played with the KidZania RightZKeepers at the Theater. Each participant also received a special KidZania loot bag with goodies from the different activity areas.

“With KidZania Go!, we are able to bring the KidZania Manila experience closer to more Filipino misters and misses,” said KidZania Philippines State Governor Maricel Pangilinan Arenas. “We are very excited to share our unique brand of engaging and interactive role-playing activities by expanding the pop-up event to even more areas.”

Live and dream big, learn while having fun and watch out for the next leg of KidZania Go! pop up event at Trinoma in Quezon City! For more information on future events, visit and follow KidZania Manila on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Vic Sotto Shares Marriage Advice To Newly-Wed Couples

June, being the traditional month to get married, reminds “Bossing” Vic Sotto of his relatively recent wedding to Eat Bulaga co-host Pauleen Luna-Sotto on January 30 of this year. Four blissful months into the married state, Bossing, the official endorser of Hanabishi quality home products, shared, “I can’t explain the feeling. Dati naman kaming couple, pero iba talaga ngayon. (We’ve been a couple for a long time but it’s different now.) It’s an entirely different page in our lives that we’re really enjoying.” During his photoshoot for a new project with Hanabishi, he couldn’t help but share some pieces of advice to couples who are planning to start a new life together.

Secrets to a happily married life

Bossing admitted that his relationship with Pauleen is not perfect and that at times they also disagree on some issues. “At the end of the day, you just have to be aware of each other’s needs and the key words are compromise and adjustment,” he said. According to him, the ‘give and take’ principle works.

When asked about the daily gestures that make him fall in love with Pauleen more, he candidly revealed, “Lahat ng ginagawa namin sa isa’t isa ay sweet. Mahirap talaga isa-isahin. More often than not it comes down to the little things. ‘Yung iba gusto malalaking bagay, sa akin maliliit lang.” (Everything we do for each other is sweet. I can’t even begin to name them one by one. More often than not, it comes down to the little things. Some like the big stuff, to me it’s the little things that matter.) Apparently, Pauleen would often go out of her way to provide him what he needs even without him asking her to.

On being practical

Being sensible about buying things is also important, per Bossing Vic. “I think I am a very practical guy. Bago ako bumili, pinag-iisipan ko muna nang mabuti kung magagamit ko ba talaga or may silbi ba. Minsan kasi first impression lang, bili na agad (Before I buy anything, I see to it that I really thought it over – and make sure that it has a purpose. Sometimes, people get carried away with their first impressions, then they impulsively buy.)”

According to him, this includes choosing the right appliances for a couple’s new home. “When it comes to buying appliances, you will be surprised na praktikal talaga kami. Dapat affordable pero hindi mo ico-compromise ‘yung quality (When it comes to buying appliances, you will be surprised that we’re really practical. We make sure that we buy affordable appliances that do not compromise on quality),” Bossing noted.

He also commented on the gifts that Hanabishi sent them on the day of their wedding, which comprise a tower fan, a rice cooker, a refrigerator, a stand fan, an electric kettle, a 50-inch LED TV, a water dispenser and an electric oven. “Kaya thankful kami sa mga binigay ng Hanabishi nung kasal namin. Kampante kami ni Pauleen kasi halos kumpleto na yung appliances namin at sigurado kaming de-kalidad at matibay yung mga bagong gamit sa bahay namin (We are very thankful for Hanabishi’s gifts on our wedding. Pauleen and I don’t have to worry about a thing since our appliances are almost complete and we’re sure that our new stuff are durable and of good quality),” he happily shared.

He stressed the importance of always consulting one’s spouse before spending on anything.

Ganun din sa buhay, walang shortcut. Work hard and cherish lahat ng pinaghirapan mo, ingatan mo, mahalin mo. Lahat ng bagay na gagawin mo dapat mahalin mo and enjoy.” (Just like in life, there are no shortcuts. Work hard and cherish all the fruits of your labor, take care of them, love them. You should love everything you do and enjoy it.)

In Bossing’s viewpoint, the success of any marriage has a lot to do with making mutual decisions. Aside from giving these pieces of advice, the ultimate ‘Bossing’ in town  wishes June brides and grooms an amazing journey in their new life as husband and wife.
