Basketball courts.
A cinema with a humongous 26-meter laser movie screen. An indoor theme park. More
than 8,000 parking slots. All of these – plus a whole range of shopping,
dining, entertainment, leisure and cultural products and services – inside one
mall that’s about the size of 70 football fields. That’s how big the latest
mall in China is, and it’s a proudly Filipino brand – SM City Tianjin.
SM’s 7th
mall in China, SM City Tianjin is touted to be one of the biggest one-stop
world-class lifestyle center in this part of Asia. It is located in Tianjin’s
Airport Economic Area, which has the largest free trade zone in Northern China.
The mall is
composed of five buildings named after the Chinese traditional "five
elements": metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. It houses big international and local brands,
including a modern supermarket brand that is one of China’s top 500
enterprises. Its cinema utilizes the latest technology to complement its enormous
screen. A famous French sports brand occupies a huge space to accommodate
35,000 types of sporting equipment.
SM City Tianjin follows
the same strategy that has been working for the SM brand here in the
Philippines. It will introduce more new formats every month to keep the
shopping experience always interesting, fun and exciting. Aware of the
popularity of online shopping, SM sees this shopping trend as a motivation to think
of more creative ways to offer items and services that customers cannot find through
internet shopping.
SM is becoming
even more popular in the country for infusing the “wow” factor within its
malls. There is the children’s park in SM Seaside City Cebu designed by Kenneth
Cobonpue, and the soon-to-be-opened football field in SM Mall of Asia, to name
a few.
SM is a brand owned by SM Prime Holdings, Inc., which is one
of the leading integrated property companies in Southeast Asia, as well as the
largest mall operator in the country today. Its world-class malls offer
interactive shopping, dining and entertainment. With SM’s latest milestone in
Tianjin, the Filipino brand has etched a deeper mark in the global shopping
scene today.
