Mega Prime Foods Inc. (MPFI), through its flagship brand Mega Sardines, honored the significant role of Filipino staple sardines as an affordable and nutritious go-to for Filipino families by taking a day of celebration and transforming it into a whole month of celebration this November.
While National Sardines Day is officially observed on November 24, MPFI spent the month with a series of on-ground events held in key regions, showcasing the beloved Filipino staple in creative, interactive ways.
The events were held on November 3, in Albay, covering the hardest-hit areas of Libon, Lapu-Lapu, and Taysan, where MPFI also provided essential relief support to families affected by Typhoon Kristine, further emphasizing its commitment to the community. Following Albay, events continued in Tuguegarao, where MPFI delivered similar relief efforts to support local families in need; November 15, at Mactan Shrine in Cebu; November 17, at Davao City Recreation Center in Davao; and November 24, at Market! Market! in Metro Manila.
National Sardines Day Celebration in Metro Manila
On the official National Sardines Day, MPFI held a grand celebration at the Market! Market! in Taguig, with a lineup of executing activities inspired by the classic Filipino Fiesta – Perya! Inspired by the lively, colorful tradition of town carnivals, the event created a festive “Peryahan sa Bayan” vibe that delighted attendees, much like a traveling carnival that brings joy and entertainment from one town to another.
The fiesta-themed celebration featured fun and interactive booths that engaged visitors of all ages. Attendees experience games, win prizes, and discover new ways to enjoy Mega Sardines products through a hands-on experience. The event also included a unique DIY bar, where participants could mix and match various ready-to-eat ingredients with Mega Sardines products to create their own flavorful combinations, showcasing the versatility of this Filipino staple.
Filipino actress and Mega Sardines brand ambassador Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo shared a hug with the grand prize winner of the game Pera o Sardinas. Also in the photo are host Nicole Hiyala and Chief Spiritual and People Officer Mark Tiu Lim and son.
Mega Sardines Through the Years
Founded in 1975 by William Tiu Lim with Wilmar Fishing in Bicol, the company expanded to Zamboanga in 1990 as Mega Fishing Corporation, supplying fresh fish to Manila-based canneries. In 2000, Mega Sardines entered the canned sardines market with a commitment to delivering the “freshest sardines in a can,” made possible by its innovative 12-hour catching-to-canning process.
Mega Sardines has grown into the country’s number-one sardine brand, starting with simple offerings. Today, it boasts a diverse product line, including Mega Sardines in Tomato Sauce, Spanish Style, Natural Oil, Extra Hot and unique variants like Mega Corned Sardines and Mega Fried Sardines in Tausi. Mega Sardines remains committed to bringing quality, freshness, and variety to Filipino families.
“For nearly five decades, Mega Prime Foods has been dedicated to delivering quality and freshness in every can. National Sardines Month is our way of celebrating not just the richness of Filipino cuisine but also the resilience and hard work of our people who make this journey possible,” said Marvin Tiu Lim of Mega Prime Foods, Inc. “As we continue to grow, we remain committed to nourishing Filipino households and supporting communities nationwide.”
