Solane AlabKalinga Community Kitchen Helps Filipino Families Cook Safely While Strengthening Bayanihan
For many Filipino moms, the kitchen is more than just a place to prepare meals—it is where families gather, stories are shared, and memories are made. But with the rising cost of living, preparing nutritious home-cooked meals has become more challenging for many households.
Recognizing these everyday realities, Solane recently launched the AlabKalinga Community Kitchen, a free initiative that promotes safe cooking practices while bringing neighbors together through the Filipino tradition of bayanihan.
The program officially kicked off on June 28, 2026, in Barangay Bigke, Leganes, Iloilo, where more than 70 households gathered for a day of cooking, learning, and community building.

Solane Launches AlabKalinga Community Kitchen in Iloilo
Inspired by the Filipino spirit of helping one another, the AlabKalinga Community Kitchen was created to make safe cooking knowledge and practical kitchen resources more accessible to Filipino families.
Participants enjoyed a hands-on community cooking experience where neighbors exchanged recipes, shared cooking tips, sampled each other's dishes, and celebrated the joy of preparing meals together.
Throughout the event, the familiar invitation of "Ma'am, tikman niyo po." echoed around the community, reflecting how food naturally brings people closer and strengthens relationships.
Promoting Safe LPG Cooking for Everyday Families
Aside from cooking activities, Solane also conducted educational sessions focused on proper LPG use and safety.
Marcus Dubria, Plant Manager of Solane's Leganes Plant, discussed the benefits of LPG and proper handling practices. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) also conducted a safety session covering emergency response procedures, proper LPG usage, and important household safety reminders.
Families were also introduced to Solane's 1.4kg LPG cylinder, an affordable option designed for smaller households. One participant shared that affordability had previously prevented her from switching to LPG, but learning about the smaller cylinder changed her perspective and made LPG a more practical choice for her family.
More Than Cooking: Strengthening the Spirit of Bayanihan
Beyond practical cooking lessons, the initiative encouraged neighbors to connect and support one another.
By creating opportunities to cook, eat, and learn together, the event highlighted how simple community activities can strengthen relationships and revive the Filipino value of bayanihan.
According to Pia Isabelle Bernabe, Senior Brand Manager of Solane, AlabKalinga reflects the company's commitment to supporting Filipino families beyond providing safe cooking solutions.
The program aims to create spaces where communities can learn together, feel empowered through practical knowledge, and build stronger neighborhood connections.

Why Community Kitchens Matter for Filipino Families
Community kitchens do more than provide meals. They encourage learning, promote kitchen safety, strengthen neighborhood relationships, and remind families that support can often begin within the community itself.
As many Filipino households continue to manage rising expenses, programs like Solane's AlabKalinga Community Kitchen demonstrate how education, practical assistance, and shared experiences can help make everyday family life a little easier.
Whether through safer cooking practices or simply sharing a meal with neighbors, small acts of bayanihan continue to create lasting impact.
