Debunking misconceptions and fighting the stigma vs lice and nits

Lamoiyan Corporation is kicking off the summer season with the continuation of its Kilusang Kontra Kuto (KKK) campaign and the Hapee Kiddie Caravan.

This time, the company is teaming up with communities in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Cavite to expand its mission to combat head lice (kuto) and provide essential health education and resources on its prevention and treatment. Building on the success of KKK in the previous years, Lamoiyan is also bringing in the Hapee Kiddie Caravan to equip barangay partners with access to information on proper oral health among kids.

Launched in 2016 by Lamoiyan’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo, Kilusang Kontra Kuto is now in its ninth year. The nationwide initiative remains dedicated to eradicating and preventing head lice infestation, also medically known as pediculosis, and the social stigma around it.

Head lice outbreaks are prevalent during summer as lice prefer to live and breed in warm and damp environments, such as kids’ heads. Because the kids are on school break during summer, they are expected to be outdoors playing and doing summer activities like swimming.

One of the biggest hindrances to the elimination of head lice are the myths surrounding it. For instance, it is commonly believed that kuto is caused by bad hygiene and that only girls can be infested with head lice. Lamoiyan reiterated that even the cleanest hair can be infested through direct head-to-head contact with other kids and the sharing of personal items, like combs, hair brushes, hats, and towels.

Treatment is also done through unconventional and potentially harmful methods such as putting mayonnaise or kerosene on the infested person’s head. These are some of the common misconceptions in Philippine society that Licealiz is actively working to correct through education and awareness. Head lice may be rampant, but it can be treated with the correct information and proper methods like using a shampoo specifically for the treatment and prevention of head lice such as Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo, an affordable anti-head lice shampoo that effectively kills lice and nits and prevents its recurrence while keeping hair soft and smooth.

Licealiz has an effective solution for kuto with the power of Pyrethrin, which is naturally derived from chrysanthemum flower extract to effectively kill head lice and nits. Licealiz kills lice and nits when used twice a week for two weeks and prevents infestation when used once a week regularly. It also has a conditioning formula to support healthy hair and has regular and soothing coolness variants, perfect for the hot summer weather.

Dra. Claudine Joy Ramos, dermatologist and fellow of the Philippine Dermatological Society, sheds light on how lice spreads and the most effective ways to prevent and treat them, especially this summer.

Say ‘yes’ to healthy and protected smiles

While summer is a great time to enjoy delicious meals with family and friends, the sugar in food and drinks, when combined with mouth bacteria, creates sugar acid, which can attack kids’ teeth and leads to tooth decay. Brushing regularly can help prevent this, especially with a toothpaste like Hapee Kiddie Toothpaste, which contains the proper amount of fluoride suitable for kids.

The Philippine Pediatric Dental Society, Inc. (PPDSI) recommends the right amount of fluoride for children, which is at 1,000 ppm (parts per million). This level of fluoride, contained in a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, can already prevent tooth decay. In addition, toothpaste brands with a sugar acid defense ingredient provide extra protection against these acids, strengthening the enamel or the hard substance protecting one’s teeth from decay and wear and tear.

Overall, good and proper oral hygiene taught among kids, with proper guidance from parents and guardians, contributes to the overall health and wellness of the kids.

“This year, we are thrilled to broaden our support to our community. Because of the strong and positive reception our KKK campaign received in the last years, we are bringing the Hapee Kiddie Caravan on board. Aside from ensuring that our kids can enjoy a kuto-free summer, we will also provide them valuable information on how they can start practicing good and proper oral health at a young age,” shared Isabella Emelo, Lamoiyan Marketing Representative.

Kuto-free Philippines and healthier smiles for kids

To continue this mission of having a kuto-free Philippines, Lamoiyan’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo has been holding free shampoo activities in 12 select barangays in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Cavite. They have been joined by Hapee Kiddie toothpaste’s toothbrush activity called the Hapee Kiddie Caravan, which aims to encourage better oral health for kids during this season.

Through the Kilusong Kontra Kuto and its mission for better hair health, Lamoiyan aims to partner with more communities to bring kuto-free playtime for kids. And with the Hapee Kiddie Caravan emphasizing oral health, the company is also bringing healthier smiles to children this summer!
