This holiday season, Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation showed how technology, empathy, and youth leadership can come together to create real-world impact. Through its Galaxy Campus program, student ambassadors partnered with learners from the Philippine School for the Deaf (PSD) in Pasay City for A Galaxy of Giving: Turning Tables of Communication—a hands-on activity that went beyond screens and social posts.

For MommyBloggersPhilippines.com readers, this story is a reminder that meaningful learning doesn’t always happen inside a classroom—or online. Sometimes, it happens when young people slow down, work with their hands, and learn to understand others in ways that words alone cannot.

Learning, Creating, and Connecting Beyond Screens

Galaxy Campus Batch 3 student ambassadors teamed up with PSD learners for a collaborative furniture-making workshop. Using Galaxy tablets, the teams co-designed modular furniture made from recycled materials. They then assembled and painted the pieces together—turning ideas into functional items that the school can use daily.

More than the finished furniture, the experience highlighted teamwork, patience, and inclusion. For many of the student ambassadors, it was also their first time learning basic sign language and navigating communication without relying on spoken words.

Voices from the Experience

Student ambassadors shared how the activity reshaped their perspective:

  • Yowni Cueto from University of the Philippines Los Baños described it as a creative way to give back while learning something new.

  • Mishka Gotico of Miriam College reflected on teamwork across differences, emphasizing how collaboration allowed everyone to shine.

  • Nikos Catanus from Iloilo Science and Technology University – Iloilo City Campus shared how shared goals helped bridge communication gaps, even without a common language.

From the school’s perspective, the impact was deeply felt. PSD Assistant Principal and Officer-in-Charge Jordan Madronio highlighted how such activities boost students’ confidence and reinforce the idea that deaf learners are capable, empowered individuals who can achieve what hearing people can.

Why This Matters to Families and Moms

For moms raising kids in a digital-first world, this initiative sends an important message: technology can be a bridge—not a barrier—when paired with compassion and purpose. It also shows how today’s students can model empathy, inclusivity, and social responsibility, values many parents hope to pass on at home.

Jun Guevara, Head of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Philippines, shared that while Galaxy Campus ambassadors are strong digital communicators, this project allowed them to create impact offline—through hands-on support for an underserved community.
